6 Winter Home Tips

Blog posted On November 03, 2014

Take these precautionary steps to ensure the winter weather does not leave you with an unexpected surprise.

#1 – CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS. Removing leaves and twigs allows water to pass freely and prevent build-up and leaks.

#2 – CHECK YOUR WINDOWS AND DOORFRAMES. Are they properly insulated? Making sure there are no leaks around windows and doorjambs will limit any rain coming in…and your warm air from escaping! Invest in some caulk and weather strips at your local hardware store.

#3 – GET YOUR CHIMNEY SWEPT. Who doesn’t love sitting around a warm, crackling fire? Don’t ruin the moment with a smoked-filled living room. A clean chimney and fireplace will bring family and friends around.

#4 – TUNE UP YOUR HEATER. While cuddling up in blankets is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon, sitting in teeth chattering, shivering cold is not a good idea. Do a test run to ensure you’re all set for the winter weather.

#5 – MAKE ROOM FOR WINTER COATS. Clean out closest and entryways for those winter coats that take up extra room.

#6 – CHECK THE LOCKS. Make sure locks on all doors and windows work and are properly in place.

Don’t get caught off-guard! Your preparations today will make for a smoother, more comfortable winter.
