Increase Your Home Appeal

Blog posted On August 04, 2014

Selling your home? Time to prepare your home and create the greatest amount of interest to sell it as quickly as possible once it hits the market. Follow these easy steps to highlight home’s features in the best way:

Use Natural Light – Pull back curtains and let the natural light accent your home’s rooms. Sunlight will brighten rooms and make them appear bigger and warmer than with limited lighting.

Highlight Amenities – Make sure your fireplace, bay windows, outdoor BBQ, and any other perks of the home are in plain view and clean. These are huge selling points.

Clean Up Clutter – A messy home is not a project someone wants to take on. Showing your home as an organized and clean space allows a buyer to see it as his or her own space of relaxation.

Freshen Up Landscaping – Trim trees and bushes, sweep pathways, get rid of weeds, mow the lawn, and water the flowerbeds. A well-kept yard is more appealing than an overgrown landscape.

Add Plants – Whether you put out fake or fresh plants, add some greenery to your home to brighten it up. If you go with live plants or flowers, make sure the scents are not overpowering.

Set the Table – Set the dining or kitchen table with a matching set of dishes. It has been shown that people are more drawn to this welcoming arrangement connecting it with family, social occasions, and warmth.

Front Door – The front door is the first impression a buyer will have of your home. Make sure it is in tiptop shape with a fresh coat of paint, clean and working handles, locks, and doorbell.

Empty Your Closets – To make the closets appear larger and more useful, empty at least half the contents of your closet. We all pack shoes, ties, clothes, and jackets in our closets. But over time it becomes crowded and messy. Removing part of the chaos establishes the appearance of spaciousness.

Clear The Room – Most people have more furniture than actually fits well in their home. Clearing some of that out allows the home to feel more open. Arrange furniture in a social way, couches and chairs in a semi circle, and avoid having everything pointed at a TV.

The way a home is presented plays a major role in the selling process. Everyone has different tastes so it is always best to err on the side of being generic so no matter the preferences of the borrower, they can envision the space with their own touches. Now go out and sell that home!
