LinkedIn is the world’s largest online professional network with more than 313 million members in over 200 countries and territories.
 
Maintaining a professional and transparent appearance is essential to uphold your values and credibility as a professional.
 
 
General Dos and Don’ts
DO
·      Make sure your profile is up-to-date and accurate.
·      Use common courtesy and be respectful of others.
·      Post relevant content that correlates with your industry and provides further proof that you should be considered a leading resource and a valuable asset.
·      Be mindful that everything posted is public, even if you have stringent privacy settings.
 
DO NOT
·      Post or transmit material you do not have the right to post or transmit under law (such as copyright, trade secrets or securities) or due to your personal contractual or fiduciary relationships.
·      Post someone else's copyrighted work unless you have permission.
 
Accurate Information
Make sure your profile is updated with your name, current title, contact information, education, organizations you belong to, volunteer positions and awards. Be sure that your Summary clearly articulates your experience and expertise. This is your opportunity to tell your colleagues and potential connections about your professional accomplishments and what makes you stand out from your competitors.
 
Photo
Make sure you have a professional headshot in a JPG, GIF or PGN file. The ideal pixel size for your photo is between 200 x 200 to 500 x 500. If either width or height exceeds 4000 pixels, or 4MB, your photo will not upload.
 
Invite People You Know
Users can invite anyone (whether a LinkedIn user or not) to become a connection; however, if the invitee selects "I don't know" or "Spam", this counts against the inviter. If the inviter gets too many of such responses, their account may be restricted or closed.
 
Engage
Follow professional organizations you may be interested in and engage with their posts by adding your perspective or how your market is affected.
