Plan a Dinner Party to be Remembered

Blog posted On November 05, 2015

As the holidays creep up on us, we all watch as our calendars fill up with events and dinner parties are planned with friends and family alike. If you happen to be the host for one of these celebratory evenings, don’t get overwhelmed. Follow these tips on how to host a dinner party that will “wow!” your guests.

1. Plan Ahead – Don’t wait until the last minute to figure out place settings, menu, or activities for guests. Plan ahead if entertainment will be needed for young children. Figure out where everyone will sit for dinner – make sure there are enough seats! And write out a menu to ensure you don’t forget anything important, like dessert.

2. Account for Extra – There is always that one person who says they won’t come and then end up “surprising” you. Or the uncle who claims he’s on a diet and yet goes back for a third helping. Be prepared to accommodate an extra place setting or multiple trips to the serving table.

3. Start Early – It’s never too early to start planning. Get everything but the fresh groceries in advance. Ask others for help if you need it so you can enjoy the time as much as everyone else will.

4. Preparation is Key – There are many ways to prepare ahead of time so the day of your dinner party goes smoothly. Set the table early in the morning, cook dishes the day before, and clean and organize your home with the help of other family members to relieve some of the stress the day of. Prepping as early as a week before the event can make everything seem much more manageable and allow you to kick back and reap the rewards of your planning as much as your guests.

5. Soak it in – Dinner parties are meant to bring people together for a good time and memories that last. No matter what the occasion is, remember to soak it all in. Especially if your guests include those you don’t get to see often, remembering to take a step back and embrace the evening is important. A happy and relaxed host creates a happy and relaxed environment for all those around them.
