Your Guide to a Digital Spring Cleaning

Blog posted On April 07, 2015

Your house might smell fresh and clean with not a dust particle in sight. But how does your digital clutter stack up? When was the last time you did an electronic cleaning? Here is a guide to get you started and cleaned up digitally:

Unsubscribe from Emails – Is your inbox constantly full of email subscriptions that you do not remember signing up for or you continuously ignore? Scroll to the bottom of each email and unsubscribe from those you do not wish to receive anymore. Watch daily as your inbox becomes more manageable with less emails.

Clean Folders – We all start a plethora of folders in our email inbox to help us organized. We drag and drop all day long. But when was the last time you peeked inside that folder? You might be surprised at how full of random tidbits those folders are now. Take the time to dig through the folder and keep only the most pertinent information you still need. Do you have tons of emails all from the same conversation? Usually the last email in the chain has everything you need to know, archiving the previous emails in this one. Double check this and then get rid of the rest of the conversation. Bet that folder is already looking more organized!

Reevaluate Apps – Did you get sucked into a free download each week? Do random games clutter your tablet or smart phone? Get rid of these apps you no longer use or need. Not only will you be able to find things more easily but you will also free up valuable space.

Declutter Your “Automatic” Accounts – How many subscriptions, apps, or accounts have your personal data saved to them? Is it your bank information? Credit cards? Personal information? Go through each one and delete private and sensitive information from all those but that are truly necessary. This will help protect your identity and allow you to maintain tighter control over where your information is stored.

Remember, spring cleaning is not just for our house or desk. Ridding yourself of digital clutter will offer the same benefits and keep your ready for whatever life brings you next.
