Proper Tree Disposal

Blog posted On January 07, 2016

It’s that time of year again! When the Christmas trees start browning and it’s time to dispose of them – properly! Here’s how:

Look up pickup times in your area. Most garbage companies set-aside specific days in which they will pick up your tree for proper disposal.

Do not just throw them in the garbage. The trees will be recycled appropriately and turned into mulch thereby helping the earth.

Don’t want to wait for a pickup? Check out local drop off locations to begin your holiday clean up on your own time.

Make sure your tree is free of all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and its stand. Unfortunately, if you’ve had your tree flocked to embrace the wintery look inside, your tree will not be accepted for recycling.

Another common mistake is waiting too long to dispose of your tree. Dry trees can ignite more quickly and result in devastating fires. Protect your family and your home by disposing of your tree at the appropriate time.

Your neighbors will thank you for not disposing of your tree in a way that inconveniences them. Avoid using publicly shared dumpsters or blocking roads or sidewalks. While it might be the easiest solution for you, it is the wrong way to take care of the situation.
