Should We Show Homes Via Drones?

Blog posted On October 21, 2015

We have entered the age where drones are now the norm. They are on the verge of delivering packages. They hold cameras and take video. They are causing problems with airplanes while being touted for their usefulness when it comes to military missions. Should we take advantage of this new technology to show potential buyers new homes?

As our lives become more similar to that of The Jetsons’ lifestyle, it only makes sense that every industry will begin to explore new technology and how it can be used to boost productivity and efficiency in every realm. Recently, society has begun exploring the usefulness of drones and how these new gadgets could potentially open up a new world of possibilities.

One of these possibilities is showing homes via drone tours. We already have the virtual tour but what if a borrower could view the home under their control? This will obviously create the need for regulations and safety procedures on all sides. But at the same time, this new tool could allow borrowers to view homes in other states, limit the invasiveness of Open Houses for the seller, and allow easier scheduling for Realtors. These are all hypothetical benefits of allowing drone tours of homes but it is an interesting thought: adopting cutting-edge technology to grow business in an industry that usually falls well behind the technological waves.

Let’s see if this actually becomes a common practice in the housing and mortgage industries.
